Botulinum Toxin (BOTOX®)

While they may have made their name through celebrity use, Botox® injections are an affordable treatment that anyone can access. Unlike some cosmetic medical treatments, they’re suitable for virtually anyone who has wrinkles or other skin lines that they want to remove. This includes people who want to fight the signs of natural ageing, or those who’ve developed lines from exposure to the sun.

At Prity Salon, we administer Botulinum Toxin Botox® treatments to help our clients achieve a younger and natural appearance.

What is Botox®?

Botox® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in people 18 to 65 years of age for a short period of time (temporary).

How does it work?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is administered by a professional as a simple, non surgical treatment that is injected directly into the muscles between the brows. It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines to form between the brows. Individual results may vary.

How does Botox® treatment work?

Botulinum Toxin (Botox®) when injected into a muscle temporarily relaxes the muscle by blocking nerve impulses. As the nerve impulses are blocked the muscle is temporarily unable to contract so that dynamic wrinkles are not formed. This gives the overlying facial skin a softer, smoother and more youthful appearance.

What areas can be treated with Botox®?

Botox® can be used to address lines and wrinkles on a number of different facial areas, including the forehead, eye area (crow’s feet), and lip lines. It may be injected to soften dimpling of the chin.

What does Botox® treatment feel like?

Treatments are quick with minimal discomfort. Many people get Botox® during their lunch hours and are able to return to work right after their appointment.

Is Botox® painful?

Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. The procedure is not considered painful. Most clients report a brief period of discomfort during the injection, which does not persist once the procedure is complete.

How soon will i see the results?

You may begin to notice results within 48 hrs to a week for moderate to severe frown lines, with results lasting up to 4 months.

How long will it last?

The effects of Botox® may last up to 3 to 4 months. Some patients report the effects lasting longer.  Injecting Botox® Cosmetic into the muscles that cause crow’s feet lines temporarily reduces the activity of those muscles. The result is a temporary reduction in the appearance of those lines.

How safe are Botox® Injections?

You may have heard some myths about Botox® treatments but it is actually a very safe treatment.

Botox® has been used in medical procedures for over 30 years. Since the late 1980s, Botox® has successfully been used for cosmetic treatments. With treatments of the forehead there is a small risk; (about 1%); of developing a drooping eyelid or eyebrow but the effects of the treatment are never permanent and any unwanted effects usually last a few days to a few weeks only. Because of its low risk, Botox® is the most popular aesthetic treatment in the world.

When can you not have Botox®?

In certain circumstances, Botox® injections are not recommended, including if:

  • you have a skin infection
  • you’re unwell in any way
  • you have a neuromuscular condition like myasthenia gravis
  • you’re taking certain medicines
  • you’re pregnant or breastfeeding

What Should I expect before my treatment?

You will have an in-depth consultation to discuss the facial features you would like to enhance and how we can help you do that with Botox®.

There will be some forms to complete on the day of the consultation and prior to your procedure taking place. This is to ensure you have been given accurate information based on your current medical background, lifestyle and preferences, any medication you are on, any other procedures that you have had done on the areas.

We operate a strict ‘open and honest’ approach and use our consultations as an opportunity to educate you as much as possible.

When should i start getting Botox®?

Some clients may wonder if they are ‘too young’ or ‘too old’ to try Botox®. There is no right or wrong age to start using Botox®. Many millennials are starting to using Botox® in their twenties when they first start to notice lines and wrinkles or as a preventative measure.

Cost Consideration

Your cost not only includes the price of the product, but more importantly, the skill and expertise of the specialist or healthcare professional who is administering your treatment.

Botox® Cosmetic is a technique-sensitive treatment— Be wary of discount products or “cheap” Botox® Cosmetic—if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

It is more important to find an experienced specialist who will take the time to understand your treatment goals and develop a treatment plan that is right for you.

Botox® Aftercare

You will not see a change straight away. It takes about 2 or 3 days to start working, and 2 to 3 weeks to see the full effect.

Do not massage or rub your face for 3 days. Also, avoid vigorous exercise, sunbathing (including using sunbeds), and the sauna for 2 days. Your practitioner should be able to give you more advice about what you should and should not do.

The effects usually last for about 3 or 4 months. If you have Botox® injections again, you should wait at least 3 months. It might stop working if you have it too often.
